I believe "Indepedence" doesn't change. "Missouri," however, becomes "Misuri." When you can find an already translated version of a scripture, quote, etc, try to use it just for the sake of being consistent. It comes across as being phony when we do our own translation of a scripture, etc, instead of using the spanish translation that already exists. You can get the LDS scriptures in spanish at http://scriptures.lds.org/es. The Bible is probably online somewhere, but I haven't looked for it.
Anyway, feel free to translate as much as you'd like. Any mistakes you make will get caught by others, especially by the native speakers who can correct our gring-isms!
Yo tambien hablo "caste-yankee" and "espenglish"--AndrewMiller
