There is one sentence which has a dual meaning in the section of Metallurgy:
Since Mesoamerica was known to trade with areas with metal, and because metal artifacts dating prior to A.D. 900 have been found in the area, it seems reasonable to assume that at least some Mesoamericans knew something about metallurgy.
Did Mesoamerica trade with areas that used metals, or did they use metal to trade with other areas?
