Preston McConkie is a journalist and webmaster living in Ogden, Utah. He runs the web site envisionogden.org and is building a wiki for his area. He has held jobs writing and/or editing at the following publications: the Ogden Standard Examiner, Utah Weekly, Ogden City News, Weber Sentinel and Coolidge Examiner. The most frequent reference to him in Google is for a single article he wrote for David Horowitz's frontpagemag.com in 2002, predicting an inevitable war with Iraq.
Preston fought in the first Persian Gulf War, serving 7 months in Southwest Asia in 1990-91. He also served in South Korea and Oklahoma. Following his military enlistment he served a mission to Manchester, England, but was transferred back to the United States because of difficulties from Gulf War Syndrome. After serving in the California, Riverside Mission he was medically released after experiencing gratifying success in proselytizing. He has partially overcome his disabilities and worked as a truck driver, traveling through most of the United States. In 1998 he began studying at Weber State University and was asked by his professors to enter the journalism program. From there he was hired by the Standard-Examiner as an editorialist and copy editor, and has moved on to several other jobs since then.
Preston has become a wiki enthusiast, beginning with Wikipedia, and has contributed large numbers of minor edits, a few major edits, and placed a number of links at appropriate articles in Wikipedia. He can be reached at prestonmcconkie@gmail.com.
