Wie soll man sich folgende Dinge erklären, wenn man nach gegenwärtigem HLT Glauben davon ausgeht, dass die Kinderhook Platten ein Betrug waren?
- Warum erlaubte Joseph Smith der "Times and Seasons", sich so stark auf die Platten zu konzentrieren (die Zeitung widmete dem Thema sieben ganze Seiten während die Platten in Nauvoo waren)?
- William Clayton war mit Joseph Smith an dem Tag zusammen, an dem er die Kinderhook Platten begutachtete. In einem Brief von Charlotte Haven, die aus dieser Stadt kam (datiert mit 2. Mai 1843), erzählte sie wie Joshua Moore, Joseph Smith die Kinderhook-Platten gezeigt hatte. Joseph Smith soll darauf gesagt haben, dass die Zeichen auf den Platten ähnlich zu den Zeichen sind, von denen das Buch Mormon übersetzt worden ist und er auch diese, durch Hilfe mit Offenbarung übersetzen könne, wenn man sie ihm überlasse. (Overland Monthly (December 1890): 630). Das ist Hinweis dafür, dass nicht William Clayton die Behauptung aufgestellt hat, dass Joseph Smith die Kinderhook-Platten "übersetzte".
- William Clayton berichtete in seinem Tagebuch, dass er mit dem Propheten zu Abend gegessen hatte, als dieser ihm seine Meinung über die Platten kundtat.
- Brigham Young überprüfte die Geschichte von Joseph Smith. Darüber hinaus war er bei Joseph Smith zu Hause und hatte dort die Platten gesehen.
