Frühjahr 1820
Erste Vision
21. September 1823
Joseph wird von Moroni besucht — dreimal in jener Nacht, und einmal am nächsten Tag.. Er wird hingeführt und sieht die Platten zum ersten Mal. Es ist ihm verboten, zu der Zeit die Platten zu bergen. [1]
Die nächsten vier Jahre
Joseph wurde geboten, in den nächsten vier Jahren einmal im Jahr für einen Tag zurückzukehren um Anweisungen zu erhalten, ehe er die Platten erhalten würde. [2] Joseph identifizierte nie den Hügel als „der Hügel Cumorah,” aber diese Bezeichnung war unter den frühen HLT üblich. [3]
18. Januar 1827
Joseph heiratet Emma Hale.[4]
22. September 1827
Joseph erhält die Goldplatten von Moroni.[5]
December 1827

Das „Buch Lehi” (Mormons Kurzfassung) ist übersetzt; 116 Seiten insgesamt mit Martin Harris als Schreiber. [9]
15. Juni 1828
Emmas und Josephs erstes Kind (ein Sohn)wurde geboren und starb innerhalb von Stunden. Für ein paar Wochen ist Joseph ständig an Emmas Bettseite und fürchtete, auch sie würde sterben. [10]

Martin Harris verliert die 116 Seiten.
Juli 1828
Joseph geht nach Manchester; Übersetzer und Platten werden ihm genommen wegen des Verlusts der 116 Seiten. Der Urim und Tummim werden Joseph wiedergegeben, um LuB 2 zu erhalten. Sie werden ihm wieder genommen, obwohl er sie ihm mit den Platten ein paar Tage später wiedergegeben werden. [11]
22. September 1828
Joseph erhält an diesem Tag Platten und Übersetzer zurück.[12]

David Whitmer geht nach Palmyra und trifft Oliver Cowdery.

Oliver kommt in Harmony an, um Joseph zu treffen.[13] Bald darauf schreibt er an David Whitmer, und erzählt, dass er überzeugt ist, dass Joseph die Platten tatsächlich hat. [14]

Joseph übersestzt das Buch Mormon mit Oliver als Schreiber. [15]

Juli 1829
Egbert B. Grandin und Thurlow Weed (Ein Buchdrucker in Rochester) lehnen es ab, das Buch Mormon zu drucken.
August 1829
  • Grandin erfährt, dass Martin Harris und Joseph ein Angebot von Elihu F. Marshall, einem anderen Buchdrucker in Rochester erhalten haben;[20] darum erklärt er sich bereit, das Buch zu drucken, da er versteht, das wenn er es nicht tut, es jemand anders tun würde. [21]
  • Martin Harris' Farm wird als Sicherheit gefordert, um Grandin zu beruhigen (Hypothek datiert vom 25. August) [22] nachdem die örtlichen Bewohner an ihn herangetreten sind und ihn mit dem Boycott des Verkaufs des Buch Mormons gedroht hatten. Grandin fürchtet, dass er nicht bezahlt wird für die große Menge des Drucks des Buch Mormons. [23]
6 Novemmber 1829
Das Druckmanuskirpt ist bis Alma 35 vorbereitet.[24]
16. Januar 1830
Das unterzeichnete Dokument gewährt Martin Harris die ersten Erlöse aus den Verkäufen, bis die Sicherheit in Höhe von $3000 auf seine Farm zurückgezahlt ist. Harris muss schließlich 151 Acres der Farm am 7. April 1831 verkaufen, um die Kosten zu bedecken.{{ref|23st Es nicht bekannt, ob er jemals die Kosten wiederbekam, um die Erstausgabe des Buch Mormons zu drucken.[25]
