Leinen im Das Buch Mormon
(also Flachs)
Die Spanier sahen einen Stoff aus Pflanzenfasern, die kein Flachs waren, den sie als Leinen oder als leinenartig bezeichneten.[1]
- Bernal Diaz, der mit Cortez an der ersten Eroberungswelle teilnahm, beschrieb einheimische mexikanische Kleider als „aus Henequen gefertigt, das wie Leinen ist”. Die Faser der Maguey (Agave americana), woraus Henequen gemacht wurde, ähnelt sehr stark der Flachsfaser, woraus in Europa Leinen gemacht wurde.
